Foreword
„A myth is a public dream, and a dream is a private myth.”
Every civilization is born from a myth. We are all its children—whether we like it or not.
Prologue
A nondescript ship rocks in the harbor: the Mayflower. Ready to set sail, chartered by the Virginia Company, armed with a royal license to run a settlement campaign in the New World. It’s an Ark of the New Order, where every passenger believed the Creator was their personal moral publisher.
Chapter I.
At the Edge of the World, Where God Hasn’t Chosen a Church Yet
The New World isn’t America yet. It’s the trembling hands of cartographers, the rustling of stinking treaties, and the empty space between prayer and an axe.
Chapter II.
The Utah Chic Preacher
Today I want to tell you the story of Joseph Smith, the prophet of our times.
A man who dared to ask God for the truth, when the world was drowning in a mess of false doctrines and divisions.
Chapter III.
Spiritual Fever: The Great Awakenings
Joseph Smith Jr. is the son of spiritual searching, the grandson of mystical fever, the child of religious anarchy.
A product of the „Burned-Over District.” A participant in the Great Awakening.
Chapter IV.
Jesus in America—According to the Book of Mormon Pride
„I have other sheep that are not of this fold,” says Jesus (Gospel of John 10:16; cf. 3 Nephi 15:21).
Mormons take this literally, so Jesus pops over to America.
Chapter V.
Between Revelations and Founding a Church
Before Joseph Smith officially became “the prophet,” he lived a life full of adventures on the border of magic, religion, and everyday prose.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded in a style the Freemasons themselves wouldn’t be ashamed of.
Chapter VI.
The Mormon Trek to Nauvoo on the Mississippi River
Smith wasn’t just a “prophet” there—he was also the mayor, general of the local militia, and, according to some… the king of a theocratic mini-state. He held power, money, hundreds of followers, his own newspaper, even a bit of an army. He wanted to be the Moses of America—and ended up like the boss of a religious mafia.
Chapter VII.
Brigham Young – Administrator of Mormon Moral Norms
An administrator, a leader, an all-out strategic player. After Smith’s death, Young took the helm and turned the Church into a social machine capable of surviving the world’s hostility, expanding globally, and building strong, loyal individuals.
Chapter VIII.
The Miracles of the Mormons
Mormon miracles are so extraordinary that even the Catholic Church’s miracle catalog is impressed by their size, bureaucracy, and ingenuity. Everything’s bigger here, brighter, more bulk-ordered. Everyone gets an upgrade to eternal life.
Chapter IX.
Mormons in the Face of Modernity
The Mormon Church is one of the MOST modern, digitized, and logistically efficient organizations in the world.
It’s a religion that took everything that works in old churches and tossed it into the American cement mixer with the motto, “Do, don’t talk.”
Chapter X.
Why Did Mormonism Catch On So Strongly?
Nineteenth-century America was a paradise for every kind of lunatic, visionary, sect, and spiritual revolution. People wanted a new beginning, and Smith said: “You are the new chosen people!” It’s hard not to respect their collective determination and social engineering.
